So I'm just about to get this up and started.
I'm sharing the basic tutorial here and how you could sign up.
A small temporary fee of 1EUR is charged to verify the account, but it gets paid back.

The system is always free, until you decide to upgrade.

Let's test and see the performance.
I chose Germany as my location.

My thoughts post (will edit as I proceed).

The sign up was quick. The provisioning of the first instance was flawless.
I'm running Ubuntu server and the SSH session through Bitvise works without issues.
The download speed is fast.

I'm on an always free instance.

I've installed a few packages and I will do further testing as I go on.
So far, first impressions are good.

Free VPS Specs:
  • VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro: E2-based standard compute. Processor: AMD EPYC 7551. Base frequency 2.0 GHz, max boost frequency 3.0 GHz.
  • 1GB RAM
  • 480 Mbps
  • Free public IP
  • File encryption
  • Compute (up to two instances)
  • Autonomous Database (up to two database instances)
  • Load Balancing (one load balancer)
  • Block Volume (up to 100 GB total storage)
  • Object Storage (up to 20 GiB)
  • Vault (up to 20 keys and up to 150 secrets)

Until the free-riders give the service constipation.

Do keep us informed of its performance under regular use.
Cool, will do.

The specs are pretty good. It's by far the best free VPS I've ever come across spec wise.
This article on medium was posted in 2019.
Going by search ratios, I believe they've got hundreds of these running.
Also, the free VPS is automatically provisioned on a "shared" service.
So no, it won't constipate them at all.

It's great.

Would guess something like 2-4 VM's per thread since shared, so ~200 VM's per CPU? Should be interesting how they handle noisy neighbors.
Can you actually stress the vCPU for a while and see what performance you get? Something that runs ~10 minutes should be fine.

I have effectively stressed it for more than 8 hours last night.
I deployed a large install on my 2nd free instance.
Doing it over now, since the changes I had to do above.

It's a 1 Core vCPU per VM\VPS\Instance

No speed issues so far.

It's impossible to charge your account, unless you chose to upgrade.
So the fault is your own.

Did you pay your SABC TV license?

What do you mean? It's a Virtual Machine. Not a downloader.
I think that what he means is if he were to run his own VPN exit point, RTorrent, libtorrent or NNTP server, how much bandwidth would he be allowed to consume?

There's no bandwidth limit as far as I see.
I've probably done 20GB this week on the free tier with no issues. I wouldn't use it for downloading torrents or anything else. That's not the purpose.

Yep. I'm still struggling with port issues though. Even though my previous attempts worked before.

Will give it a shot in future.
you do realise you're replying to a link spammer, right?

have reported their account already.

All i did was sign up. i didn't even have the time to set up a VM yet.

support said it's due to verification process, and the money is only pending but wont be charged...

Ok. That's good then.
Just remember not to upgrade.
As I said in the first post. There is a small charge to verify your account. It is refunded though.

Strange. Hope you get refunded soon. I'm sure they’ll fix it.
