Samsung Galaxy S24 prices in South Africa vs the rest of the world

Samsung Galaxy S24 pricing varies worldwide, with the phones being more expensive to buy in South Africa than in countries like the US, UK, Australia, and Germany.

However, one country’s pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra — France — is slightly higher than South Africa.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series at its Unpacked event in San Jose, California, on 17 January 2024.

The smartphone range saw the launch of Galaxy AI, which is available on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as well as the base S24 and S24+.

Samsung’s on-device AI push added features like a face-to-face interpreter, live translation for calls, and Google-powered Circle To Search.

Regarding design, the Galaxy S24 series strongly resembles its predecessor with a few slight differences.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is Samsung’s first titanium-built device and features an enhanced version of Gorilla Glass Victus.

On the other hand, the lower-specced devices feature a matte finish with an aluminium frame.

Looking at hardware specs, the S24 and S24+ units sold in South Africa pack Samsung’s Exynos 2400 processor and 256GB of storage.

The S24 packs 8GB of RAM, while the S24+ ups this to 12GB.

In other countries such as the US, the lower-specced models pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor — the same featured in the top-tier S24 Ultra.

In the S24 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is combined with 12GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Galaxy S24 Ultra’s rear camera setup is largely unchanged from its predecessor, with a 200-megapixel (MP) primary shooter and dual telephoto lenses.

It is capable of 4K video recording at 120 frames per second.

However, it also features a 50MP periscope lens, upgraded from the 12MP one featured in the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The S24 and S24+ both have 50-megapixel (MP),  12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto sensors on the rear.

The camera setup allows the Galaxy S24 and S24+ to record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second.

Similarly, the device’s 6.8-inch AMOLED display remains essentially unchanged. It features a maximum QHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

South African pricing vs the UK, UK, Australia, Germany, and France

MyBroadband compared South African pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series to prices in several other countries worldwide.

The US is the cheapest across the board, with the S24 and S24+ priced at R17,237 and R20,043, respectively, when applying sales tax.

This makes the S24 nearly R4,000 cheaper in the US than it is here. At the same time, the S24+ also costs roughly R4,000 more in South Africa than in the US.

Samsung fans in the US can get the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for R26,056, compared to R29,999 in South Africa.

Australia and Germany are also significantly cheaper than South Africa. However, the UK isn’t, with its pricing almost matching Samsung’s local prices for the S24 series.

While cheaper than South Africa for the base S24, France is the most expensive for the Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra. However, only by a small margin.

In France, the Galaxy S24+ is R13 more expensive in South Africa, while the Ultra costs R175 more.

The table below compares South African pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series to the US, UK, Australia, Germany, and France.

We converted prices in each respective currency to rands. US pricing uses an average combined sales tax of 6.35%.
